Day 5
This day is definitely one for the bucket list books. Today we ride to the top of Pikes Peak. This is the highest summit of the southern front range of the Rocky Mountains. It is the 53 highest peak in North America. The ride up to the top consist of 19 miles and 156 turns that ascends to 14,115 ft. When we left the hotel this morning it was 41 degrees Brenda and Tonya were absolutely dreading going to the top they were bundled up like Ralphie's little brother Randy in a Christmas Story. 😂😂😂
This is Pikes Peak at about 30 miles away
Something Super exciting happened on our check in 1 of the 4 of us became a Jr. Ranger of Pikes Peak!!! Woohoo!!!
The switchback turns were taken at 10mph and as you got higher and higher they made your butt pucker a little
We met a cute little Yellow Bellied Marmot at the top.
So one of the big things to do at the top of the mountain is to have doughnuts they are the only doughnuts made at this high of an altitude and they can not be brought back down because they will deflate and go flat. So you have to go to the top if you want to experience them. We had pizza for lunch and doughnuts for dessert! Both were very good.
So when you ride a motorcycle you stop every couple of hours for gas when you get off of the bike your legs feel a little weird, but it get back to normal within minutes. Up at the top of the peak Holy Crap. We dismounted from the bikes and each of us thought we were drunk. We were all super wobbly and dizzy and it never got any better until we left the peak. They said eat some food we did and it did not help at all. We were very glad to get back to normal elevations
This was a canyon on our way to Breckenridge Brewing
